When we started M.I.S. Corporation in 1991, M.I.S. was a very common acronym for today's I.T. or I.S. department. M.I.S. abbreviated Management Information Systems, a department frequently organized under accounting and reporting to the CFO. Businesses with MIS departments generally were larger than 50M in annual revenues and utilized mid-range computers with terminals and a few PCs or Novell Servers with PC based workstations. Things were about to change.
We saw an opportunity to apply the practices and methodologies from medium and large businesses, utilizing newer technologies with lower barriers to entry, to the challenges facing the owners of privately held firms and organizations. However, our practice is not about delivering technology.
The partners of MIS hold business degrees, believe in return on investment and view technology as a tool - not a goal. One of the most valuable services we offer our clients is helping them say no to distracting technologies. Our practice is about solving problems, increasing efficiency and consistency and increasing the resources and capabilities of our client organizations.
We think you will find our basic approach refreshing. Let us demonstrate an M.I.S. team operating the way you wish they all did!
